“2 minutes to New Year!” Matsuda Saki exclaimed happily as she looked at her watch.
Both Tachibana Kippei and Matsuda Saki were at rooftop on Matsuda
residence. Saki’s parents were out for work and her brother spent his
New Year’s Eve together with his friends. Oh, boys friendship. As for
her dear aunt? Working like a crazy robot, even on this time.
“1 more minute~” She stared amusedly at the night sky. The sky was
rarely clear today; some stars twinkled brightly, while the others
showed their weak twinkles. The weather was cold, but the amusement and
excitement of the first New Year’s Eve on the rooftop warming her up.
And of course, the presence beside her.
People said, the bigger the person is, the warmer they become, because
they have a lot of fat. However traces of fat were nowhere to be seen in
Tachibana Kippei’s body, for it mostly consists of muscles.
A tennis player, you know.
Saki has known this person since middle school. A long-time neighbor,
shortly. It has been years since their first meeting. And this was also
the first time they spent New Year’s Eve together.
As an official couple.
She blushed furiously at her thought and quickly buried her head between
her knees. She had never imagined her long-time partner-in-crime would
be her boyfriend. Although they had been together for long, often went
out together, spent times just between them, but the thought of ‘couple’
never really crossed her mind.
Until she realized her life was plain white without him beside her.
“Oi Saki, what are you doing?” Tachibana’s voices waken her from her reverie. “It’s time already.”
“O-oh? Is it?” She looked up to her watch. It read “12.00 A.M”.
“Happy New Year, Kippei!” It has been years since she called him by his
given name. But now, it felt different. It caused a lot of thump in her
heart.
“Happy New Year too, Saki,” he smiled warmly. She had known that smile
for years too, but why it felt so radiant now? Why it caused a slight
blush on her face?
Tachibana noticed the change in her face. “Why is your face red? Are you
cold?” He asked concernedly. It won’t be good if she catch cold in the
New Year, he thought.
“N-nope. I’m not,” she answered quickly. “Now, time to make a wish!” She
exclaimed, tried to drive away his attention from her redden face.
Both of them closed their eyes, tried to concentrate their mind into
one, or some wishes they had for the year ahead. Minutes passed, Saki
was the first to open her eyes. She looked at Tachibana, who still
closed his eyes.
“What is your wish?” She asked after he opened his eyes. He frowned at her.
“Wishes aren’t meant to share, Saki.”
“But why can’t I know?”
“Because it will lose its magic once you tell others about that.”
Saki let out a pout. “Hmph. Okay then.” She knew she was losing, and there was no point to continue the argument.
The silence stayed there for some good minutes, until Tachibana felt a
sudden weight on his right arm. He looked aside and found already sleep
Saki leaned her body against his arm. A soft sound of her breath was
heard.
Tachibana smiled at his girlfriend, wrapped his arm around her shoulder to bring her closer. He kissed her hair.
“If you really want to know what my wish…” he leaned closer to her ear. “…it is to be with you, forever.”
A/N: Ryoma's Futarikiri no Merry Christmas inspired me so much to write
this. It could be great if you able to listen it while reading this
